Annual Home Care ICD-9-CM Coding Update
ICD-9-CM Coding Update Includes Only One New Procedure Code.
Home care and hospice providers take notice of the new CMS revised and discontinued ICD-9 diagnosis codes on the CMS Web site on an annual basis each June. Updated diagnosis and procedure codes are effective for dates of service/discharges on and after October 1.
Due to the partial code freeze that is currently in place, no new diagnosis codes are being added for fiscal year 2013. Only one new procedure code was included in this year’s update:
- 00.95 (Injection or infusion of glucarpidase)
HEALTHCAREfirst products will be updated in advance of the October 1, 2012 effective date to include the new procedure code.
ICD-10 is currently being considered for postponement of compliance, with the date potentially moving from October 1, 2013 to October 1, 2014. The comment period for the proposal has closed, public comments are being reviewed and a decision is expected soon. When the partial freeze was first enacted, regular updates were scheduled to occur again beginning in October of 2014, but if the delay is finalized the freeze period may also need to be adjusted. HEALTHCAREfirst will keep you up to date on additional information on ICD-10 as it is posted.
