Home Health Agencies May Apply for Exemption.
Medicare-certified home health agencies (HHAs) that served 59 or fewer unduplicated patients from April 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012 who met HHCAHPS survey-eligibility criteria are eligible for an exemption from participating in the HHCAHPS Survey for the calendar year (CY) 2014 annual payment update (APU).
HHAs seeking an exemption from participating in the HHCAHPS Survey for the CY 2014 APU must provide a count of the number of patients served between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012 who met survey-eligibility criteria. Agencies are recommended to print out the following form first and complete the count on paper prior to filling out the online form here.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began publicly reporting results from the Home Health Care CAHPS (HHCAHPS) Survey in April of this year. HHAs that don’t meet the exemption who fail to report HHCAPS will have their payment reduced by 2 percent.
HHAs using HEALTHCAREfirst can use the HHCAHPS data export feature and reporting tools to generate and review submission files. HEALTHCAREfirst’s approved vendor list can be accessed here.
