October 2015 New ICD-10 Implementation Date.
Yesterday, March 31, 2014 the Senate voted to approve a bill (H.R. 4302 -Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014), which had language added at the last minute to delay the implementation of ICD-10/PCS to October of 2015. The senate passed the bill 64 to 35 last night. The only step left for the bill is for President Obama to sign it into law, which is expected to occur.
The main purpose of H.R. 4302 was to create a temporary “fix” to the Medicare sustainable growth rate (SGR). The last minute addition of an ICD-10 delay to the SGR fix bill caught many in the industry off guard as no one expected anymore delays to it. HEALTHCAREfirst will continue to monitor this topic, as a delay to ICD-10 is also expected to impact the implementation of OASIS-C1.
