CMS Makes Decision on OASIS-C1
OASIS-C1 Moves Forward.
While most providers and industry proponents thought CMS would choose to delay implementation of OASIS-C1 to match that of ICD-10, late yesterday CMS instead announced they are moving forward with OASIS-C1, making a few slight changes:
- The version will officially become “OASIS-C1/ICD-9 Version”
- The new implementation date will be January 1, 2015
- All previously published OASIS changes except the ICD-10 coding questions will remain in effect. The existing ICD-9 coding questions will remain in effect until ICD-10 is implemented and include M1010 (Inpatient diagnosis), M1016 (Diagnoses requiring medical or treatment regimen change within past 14 days), M1020 (Primary diagnosis), M1022 (Other diagnoses) and M1024 (Payment diagnoses).
CMS is in the process of approving the final form and guidance manual and once finalized, will be posted on the CMS OASIS-C1 webpage.
Providers should also be reminded that the submission format changes do remain in effect, and as of October 1, 2014, OASIS assessment data will be submitted to CMS via the Assessment Submission and Processing (ASAP) system. With the implementation of the OASIS ASAP system, Home Health Agencies will no longer submit OASIS assessment data to CMS via their state databases.
