MedPAC Releases March Report on Home Health and Hospice to Congress
Home Health and Hospice Agencies Should Take Note
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) is a 17-member independent Congressional agency that advises the U.S. Congress on issues affecting the Medicare program. Every March and June, MedPAC releases a report to Congress with their program recommendations. Recommendations of the HHS become the annual Proposed Rules:
- The Hospice proposed rule is normally released in April
- The Home Health proposed rule is normally released in July
Each proposed rules allows for a comment period and then Final rules published:
- The Hospice Final Rule is normally published in August and takes effect on October 1st of each year.
- The Home Health Final Rule is normally published in late October, early November and takes effect on January 1st of the following year.
The March 2015 MedPAC report continues to include recommendations for home health per episode co-pays and on the hospice side, MedPAC is recommending that congress eliminate the update to the hospice payment rate for calendar year 2016.
