Affordable Care Act Employer Mandate Delayed

Delay Brings Temporary Relief.

One of the biggest issues that was about to face home care and hospice providers was the employer responsibilities tied to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Luckily some temporary relief has been provided in the form of the Treasury Department announcing late yesterday afternoon that the ACA employer mandate would be delayed from January of 2014 back to January 1, 2015. This delay is to provide time for businesses to comply, however many in the industry are hoping this delay will allow more time to make needed changes to the ACA.

As mentioned in the recent HEALTHCAREfirst User Conference regulatory session, one of the recommended changes that many in the industry are proposing is the possibility of exempting home care providers, as they are on a fixed income as dictated by reimbursement rate through CMS, or the potential to amend the definition of a full-time employee.
